Malaga is the largest port city on the Costa del Sol in Spain; originally popular with package tour operators in the early 1980s it has recently undergone major redevelopment making it one of southern Spain's premier tourist towns. Around 100 km away from Malaga is a city of Ronda, situated in an extreme mountainous area that time of Ronda has a long and varied history, he has spent periods under first Roman rule, and then Moorish rule and influences of both of these periods of history are clearly visible. Slightly further afield is the city of Granada, nestled at the foot of the Sierra Nevada at a spot where three rivers converge. Granada still displays clearly the influence of the period spent under Moorish rule; the popular Alhambra Palace was built to hold the courts of the Muslim rulers of Granada and is considered to be one of the finest examples of Islamic architecture in southern Spain.
